About Me

Who I am

Here's a brief'ish' !! history of my life with my pets. I hope it gives you an insight as to how I feel about animals and that I will look after your pet as if it were my own. I'm not money driven so therefore able to give the best possible attention to your pet that I can.

So, what can I say ? Finally after 21, ahem, sorry, I mean nearly 50 years on this earth, I get to do my dream job, working with animals.

I'm Karen. I've lived in Wallasey / New Brighton since I was 5. I've always loved animals and as a little girl dreamt of becoming a lion tamer or zoo keeper but as I grew older, more realistically a vet although I couldn't bear the thought of putting an animal to sleep so, I would work in some other way with animals. Unfortunately all these dreams were destroyed when at the age of 12 I developed an allergy to animal fur.

It all began when I was about 4 when this black "Heinz 57" mongrel decided to collapse in our hall, covered in blood. I knew my mum had taken him to the vet but it was because of, me, he got better. I bathed his wounds and changed his bandages and brought him back to life. This was Tramp. An escape artist who could scale 8 foot fences. There were a lot of Tramp look alikes around for some time !

Our second dog, albeit for only two weeks, was Lady. A golden Labrador who jumped into our car boot and hid when we were packing up for a 2 week camping holiday in Wales. She was one of Tramp's lady friends. She had a lovely holiday and when we returned home, jumped out of the car and ran off, presumably back to her home as we never saw her again.

Then came Shep, a Welsh border collie who was the runt of the litter. We were on holiday in Wales and the local farmer didn't want him so my siblings and I smuggled him home. It was a few days later when he was discovered. He'd escaped from our hiding place and my mum woke up to find this furry thing draped around her neck. He was now the newest member of the family.

When Tramp died, we got Bruno, a Great Dane, to keep Shep company. He was huge and loved to sit on your knee ! A gentle giant.

I left school, got a job as a legal secretary, got married and moved out. The house was empty without a pet. We adopted Murphy when he was 8 weeks old. Our baby. We lost him to cancer when he was only 9. We were devastated and vowed never to get another pet but, after 2 months couldn't bear the silence in the house and rescued Mashie, a Belgian shepherd who had been found with kennel cough and in a bad way on the streets of Liverpool. We were then "conned", "sob storied" into taking on Jake who had nowhere else to go. He was a spoilt, clingy Dalmatian who wasn't so keen on men but we loved him so much.

When our daughter was born it was clear from the beginning that Jake needed more attention than we could give him so a friend offered to take him, reluctantly we agreed as he needed someone who could give him 100% of their attention.  We then got a kitten to keep Mashie company.

Mashie passed away in January 2015. Heartbroken again, my husband said that's it no more dogs.

In May 2015 however, I'd been given money for my birthday. I'd been looking on the internet and saw an ad for these adorable puppies. Rottweiler crossed with an Akita. I jumped in the car, drove to Mold, and before I knew it was driving home with this little bundle of fluff. Willow ! As you can imagine my husband wasn't best pleased but she is so adorable, a handful now at nearly 40kgs, but still adorable. Our last member of the family.

So now to my dream job. As I've said I've been a legal secretary, a conveyancing /re-mortgage clerk, a full time mum, a wedding and portrait photographer, a cook in a local cafe, a cake baker for the same cafe, a kitchen assistant in my daughter's school and now setting up "Go Fetch" Dog Walking.

My greatest venture and dream job.
